Ferrari Unveils First All-Electric Platform, Elettrica Debuts 2026

Ferrari has officially unveiled the chassis for its first fully electric vehicle, the Elettrica, marking a historic shift for the iconic Italian marque. The groundbreaking model, revealed October 9 at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters, will enter production in the second quarter of 2026, representing the company’s most significant technological evolution since its founding.

Engineering Breakthrough in Electric Performance

Ferrari’s Elettrica features a revolutionary four-motor powertrain that delivers unprecedented performance metrics. Each wheel receives power from its own dedicated synchronous permanent magnet electric motor, enabling precise torque vectoring and generating a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. The system allows the Elettrica to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds despite weighing approximately 5,070 pounds.

The innovative Torque Shift Engagement system divides power output into five selectable levels, controlled via the right-hand paddle shifter to mimic the stepped feel of a traditional transmission. For efficiency, both front motors can disengage at any speed, transforming the vehicle into rear-wheel drive when conditions permit. The rear axle alone can generate 2,582 lb-ft of torque, soaring to 5,900 lb-ft in Performance Launch Mode.

Advanced Platform and Suspension Technology

Built on a purpose-designed platform with an “extremely short” 116.5-inch wheelbase, the Elettrica features compact overhangs and a forward-set driving position for optimal handling dynamics. The 122-kWh battery pack integrates fully into the floorpan, lowering the center of gravity by over three inches compared to similar gasoline-powered models while improving structural rigidity.

The Elettrica debuts Ferrari’s third-generation 48-volt active suspension system, previously seen on the Purosangue SUV. This technology continuously adjusts damping and ride height to balance comfort and precision across three driving modes: Range, Tour, and Performance. Rear suspension components mount on a separate subframe, a first for Ferrari, to isolate mechanical sound and enhance ride comfort without compromising dynamic capability.

Strategic Vision and Market Positioning

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna emphasized that the Elettrica represents an addition to rather than replacement for the company’s combustion engine heritage. “The EV is an addition, not a transition,” Vigna told Reuters, reflecting Ferrari’s multi-energy strategy that includes internal combustion, hybrid, and now fully electric powertrains. The company deliberately waited to enter the electric vehicle market until technology could meet its performance standards.

Every component has been developed entirely in-house at Maranello, maintaining Ferrari’s tradition of craftsmanship and engineering excellence. While pricing and production numbers remain undisclosed, the Elettrica will likely occupy the premium segment of Ferrari’s lineup. The estimated range exceeds 330 miles under Europe’s WLTP testing cycle, though real-world performance will depend on driving conditions and style.

The Electric Supercar Revolution Accelerates

Ferrari’s entry into the pure-electric segment signals a broader industry transformation, with performance brands increasingly embracing electrification. According to McKinsey analysis, the electric supercar market is projected to grow at 15% annually through 2030 as technology enables new performance benchmarks. The shift reflects changing consumer expectations and regulatory pressures across global markets.

The International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2024 notes that electric vehicle adoption continues accelerating, with premium segments showing particularly strong growth. Ferrari’s strategic timing positions the Elettrica to capitalize on this trend while maintaining the brand’s exclusivity and performance heritage. The company’s careful approach to electrification mirrors industry-wide patterns where established manufacturers balance innovation with brand identity preservation.
