“What if a humanoid gets hacked or behaves unpredictably in someone’s home?” Saad questions. “These are substantial challenges that deserve more attention than they’re currently receiving.”

Uncertain Development Timeline

The unclear development timeline presents particular challenges for venture capitalists who operate within specific fund lifecycles and return expectations. Nvidia‘s AI research vice president Sanja Fidler compares the current humanoid excitement to early self-driving car enthusiasm, noting that complex technologies often take longer to mature than initial predictions suggest.

Nvidia chief scientist Bill Dally echoes this cautious perspective, despite his company’s significant investments in developing infrastructure for humanoid robotics.

Seth Winterroth of Eclipse Ventures emphasizes the extraordinary complexity of humanoid systems. “We’re dealing with 60-plus degrees of freedom systems compared to typical six degrees in simpler robots,” he explains. “Creating reliable software for such complex systems while maintaining viable economics presents enormous challenges.”
